Women's Volleyball Wins Saturday Slate

Bridgewater, Va. -- The Lynchburg Hornets continued to build on their best start in program history, defeating Pfeiffer 3-0 and Greensboro 3-2. 

In the first game of the day, Ava Meinhardt led the team with 10 kills, accompanied by a block on the defensive end. Kate Hardie also chipped in nine kills, four aces, and one block. 

Lynchburg started their Saturday off strong with a phenomenal defensive performance in the opening set against Pfeiffer. During the first frame, the Hornets held Pfeiffer to just three kills with 4 errors on 23 total attempts. Meanwhile, the Hornets capitalized on the offensive end with an attacking percentage of 0.265. Lynchburg went on to win the first set 25-11. 

In the second set, Pfeiffer began to find their rhythm offensively and kept the contest tight. After the score reached 17-17, the Hornets went on an 8-3 run to clinch their second win. Lynchburg wrapped up the affair to claim their fifth sweep of the season in the third with a 25-19 victory. 

In the second match of the day, Lynchburg had their first five set contest since their opening weekend. 

Three Hornets cracked double-digit kills with Hardie (13), Kailey Keough (12), and Jacqueline Bryant (12). Three Hornets also tabbed double-digit digs with Tori Williamson (12), Morgan Clark (11), and Keough (10). 

Lynchburg stormed out of the gates to begin the contest, winning the first two frames 25-19. However, Greensboro quickly answered, attempting to accomplish the reverse sweep. 

The Pride took set three 25-15 and set four 25-20, setting up a high-dramatics fifth frame. With Lynchburg trailing 11-12, Hardie tabbed two kills and two Greensboro attacking errors pushed the Hornets to a 15-13 win. 

Lynchburg (10-1) now turns to confrere play on Wednesday, Sept. 17, against cross-town rival Randolph.
