Hornets Clinch Sixth Season Sweep Over Randolph

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg Hornets defeated Randolph in three frames on the road and continued to build off their best start in program history, notching their sixth week and eleventh victory through their first 12 games, 

Outside hitter Kate Hardie recorded a game-high nine kills on the night, with Kailey Keough and Leah DiNardo also making key contributions with eight kills each. Jacqueline Bryant also chipped in six kills on 11 total attacks with a team-best attacking percentage of .455. Alexis Scipione and Mya Green tabbed double-digit assist, finishing with 15 and 10 respectively.

Meanwhile, Morgan Clarke and Tori Williamson anchored the Hornet defense, tallying 14 and 12 diggs each. Lynchburg held Randolph to an attacking percentage of .000, their second best mark this season in a match, and no player individually finished with a percentage over .167. 

The Hornets began the affair on a strong note, jumping out to an early 5-0 advantage and notching five kills in their first six points. Lynchburg attacked by committee with Bryant, Keough, Williamson, DiNardo, and Hardie all claiming at least two kills in the opening frame as the Hornets rolled to a 25-18 win. 

In the second set, a quick 6-0 run from the Hornets, highlighted with three kills from Keough, gave Lynchburg the upper hand once again. Nevertheless, Randolph rallied in the final moments of the frame with a 7-1 run to keep the contest competitive, but would fall short for a 25-19 final. 

Lynchburg sealed the victory over the Wildcats in the third behind a strong outing from DiNardo, collecting half of her kills on the night in the final set. The Hornets serving also began to play a factor down the line with all three of their services aces, one short of their season low, coming in the last frame. A 25-18 finish gave Lynchburg the victory to begin conference play 1-0. 

Lynchburg improves to 11-1 on the season with a pair of conference foes on deck. The Hornets welcome Bridgewater (8-1) to Turner Gymnasium on Friday, Sept. 19, night for a Code Red matchup at 7 p.m. 16 hours later,  Lynchburg welcomes No. 6 Washington & Lee (10-0), fresh off their highest ranking in program history.
