Cary, N.C. – The University of Lynchburg men's and women's cross country teams returned to the course to face Division I opponents on Friday at the Adidas XC Challenge, with the men's team placing in the top half of the field.
Held at WakeMed Soccer Park, the race featured 14 teams in the men's and women's races, though temperatures in the high 80s made conditions difficult for racing.
In team scoring, Lynchburg's men placed fifth out of 14 teams, toppling several DI squads including Elon, UNC Greensboro and East Carolina. The women's team finished 11th out of 14 teams.
Lynchburg opened the evening with the men's 6k, led by Alex Jordan, who clocked 18:30.4 for 16th in the field. Jordan improved from 22nd place at the midway point to cross the line as the first Hornets finisher.
Alex Paciello followed behind to finish 25th with an 18:51.5 performance. Cameron Sidebotham solidified a 31st-place result with a 19:08.2 performance, while grad student Johnathan Cobb clocked 19:08.9 to file closely behind for 33rd.
Randy White closed the scoring for the Hornets, registering a 19:15.1 mark for 37th place. The men's squad maintained its fifth-place position throughout the race, falling to Davidson by just five points in the team standings.
In the women's 5k, Adelynn Carpenter showed significant signs of improvement from the 2024 season, posting an 18:16.6 performance for 62nd in the field to lead the Hornets. Carpenter raced to an 18:44.4 result in her collegiate debut last season.
Jordan DiRisio clocked 19:28.6 for 91st, while Mya Baker crossed the line in 20:04.8 for 106th. Hannah Edwards (20:05.1) and freshman Alana Palmaioli (20:09.9) finished close behind for 107th and 109th, respectively.
The Hornets return to action in two weeks as Lynchburg travels to the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
