Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference play with a comfortable 5-0 victory over cross-town rival Randolph on CVU College Night at Shellenberger Field.
The Hornets have submitted clean sheets in four of their five victories to begin the 2025 season. A combined goalkeeping effort from Kate Shepherd, Kylie Cass and Alessandra Socio featured two saves on two shots faced to solidify the shutout.
Lynchburg dominated every offensive category, boasting a 21-2 shot advantage and nine corners to Randolph's one. 13 of the Hornets' chances were directed on-frame.
While Lynchburg fired eight shots in the first half, the Hornets' lone goal originated from a set piece in dangerous territory to clinch the lead. Lune DenHartog inserted a free kick directly in front of the Randolph keeper, and Lauren Orner capitalized on a deflection to net Lynchburg's opening tally.
Randolph's defense quickly encountered trouble to begin the second half when McKayka Hargrove scored a cross from Morgan Oliver in the opening minute. Hargrove, who earned her first collegiate start, received the ball yards away from the keeper and converted her second goal of the 2025 season.
Morgan Oliver showcased her power with a 53rd-minute strike from outside the 18-yard box from the middle of the field. Arriving just seven minutes after the second goal, the score prompted Coach Olsen to substitute Lynchburg's starting keeper, Kate Shepherd, out of the match.
Hannah Phillips secured her first goal of the season in the 75th minute, belting a rebound that caromed off the gloves of the Randolph keeper and into open space. With time to convert, Phillips angled the shot between the keeper and the pipe for Lynchburg's fourth goal.
Ella Dischiavo drew the final dagger in the 86th minute with the first score of her Lynchburg career. From beyond the 18-yard box, Dischiavo lasered a shot beyond the keeper's reach and evaded traffic to grant Lynchburg a 5-0 advantage.
The Hornets begin a three-game road stretch on Saturday, Sept. 27 as the team travels to Arlington, Va. to face Marymount for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
