Lynchburg Wins Seventh Straight Defeating Catholic, 3-1

Washington, D.C. -- The Lynchburg Hornets continued their winning streak on the road, defeating Catholic 3-1 in the nation's capital to improve to 14-1 on the season.

Junior outside hitter Tori Williamson led the way offensively, recording a team-high 12 kills along with 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the year. Ava Meinhardt delivered a phenomenal all-around performance with 11 kills, three aces, and four total blocks.

The opening frame featured sharp play on both sides, as Lynchburg tallied 17 kills to Catholic's 12 while each team committed just three errors. With the score tied at 15-15, the Hornets pieced together a 9-3 run to take control and close out the set, 25-19.

Catholic responded in the second frame as Lynchburg's offense slowed. The Hornets committed nine errors, including seven in the Cardinals' first 10 points. Despite battling back, Lynchburg fell 25-21 to even the match at 1-1.

The third set swung back and forth early, with Lynchburg opening on an 8-2 run before Catholic countered with a 7-3 spurt to level the score at 15. The Hornets surged again behind Meinhardt, who contributed two kills and two blocks during an 8-3 run that secured another 25-19 win.

With momentum in hand, Lynchburg dominated the fourth frame. The Hornets jumped ahead 10-4, then strung together an 11-1 run to pull away for good. Lynchburg finished the set with 15 kills and just three errors, while holding Catholic to four kills and four errors, to close out the match.

Lynchburg (14-1) returns to the Hill City tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 27, for a neutral-site matchup against Pittsburgh at Bradford (12-3) at Randolph College.
