Savannah, Ga. -- The University of Lynchburg IHSA equestrian team traveled south to compete at the Savannah College of Art and Design Tournament of Champions on Saturday, Jan. 31. Lynchburg was represented by both Team Black and Team Red.

Team Black finished the competition with a total score of 33, placing fourth overall in the team standings. Team Red followed with a total of 22 points, finishing 10th. Contributions from both teams came through consistent placings in open, intermediate, limit, and novice classes.

In Open Fences A, Amaya Bellfield earned a second-place finish for Black, while Zoey Horn of the Red team added a fourth-place result in Open Fences B. Open Flat competition saw Bellfield finish third in A class, with Team Red's McKenzie Burch placing fourth in Open Flat B. 

Intermediate divisions produced some strong results for Lynchburg. Burch secured a second-place finish in Intermediate Fences A, and Team Black's Ava Jackson followed with a fourth-place ride in Intermediate Fences B. On the flat, Jessica McElhaney of Team Black earned second place in Intermediate Flat A, while Ava Hogan completed Intermediate Flat B in fifth for Red.

Limit classes continued to add to Lynchburg's point totals. Team Red's Kriston Parr placed fourth in Limit Fences A, and Ashby Watts of Team Black earned second in Limit Fences B. On the flat, Clair Humphreys finished third for Team Red in Limit Flat A. Novice competition saw Ashlyn Barksdale on the Red team place fifth in Novice A, while Team Black's Annabella Shores earned a third-place finish in Novice B.

Lynchburg riders also appeared in the High Medal class, with Burch recording a fourth-place finish and McElhaney earning eighth. Across all sections, both Lynchburg teams delivered rides that contributed to their final standings and reflected the program's depth.

The Lynchburg IHSA squad will return to action for the Hollins IHSA from Saturday, Feb. 14 through Sunday, Feb. 15.
