Brown Scores 26 in Lynchburg Road Win Over Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team turned in a complete performance Saturday afternoon, rolling past Bridgewater College 91–73 to earn a convincing ODAC victory.

Sophomore forward Jamarcus Brown led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting, adding nine rebounds and three steals in a dominant all-around effort. Jesse Mitchell added 19 points shooting eight-of-13 from the field with five boards. Meanwhile Jayson Easton was electric from beyond the arc, burying five three-pointers and finishing with 17 points.

The Hornets (11-9, 6-5) set the tone early, jumping out to a 41–28 lead at the break behind efficient shooting and strong ball movement. Lynchburg shot 47.2 percent from the floor in the opening half while limiting the Eagles (6-13, 2-8) to under 38 percent, using defensive stops to fuel its transition game.

Lynchburg took full control after halftime, erupting for 50 second-half points while shooting a blistering 65.2 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes. The Hornets knocked down six three-pointers in the second half and consistently attacked the paint to stretch the lead to as many as 26.

Jake Hart facilitated the offense with five assists, and the Hornets finished with 15 assists on 32 made field goals.

Lynchburg won the battle on the glass, 38–41 overall, but capitalized on its opportunities, forcing 14 Bridgewater turnovers and converting them into 23 points. The Hornets also recorded seven steals and four blocks defensively.

Bridgewater was paced by Jahmir Brown, who scored 26 points, while Mous Diop chipped in 12. The Eagles were unable to overcome Lynchburg's efficiency, shooting 42.4 percent from the floor for the game.

With the win, the Hornets continue to build momentum as conference play rolls on, taking on Averett, Wednesday, Jan. 4.
