Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team secured its sixth win of ODAC play with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Roanoke on Shellenberger Field during Homecoming Weekend.
The Hornets outshot the Maroons 14-8 and corralled eight corner kicks in the winning effort. Four different Hornets tallied a goal, while Lynchburg clinched its 10th multi-goal victory of the regular season.
In the 15th minute, Lauren Orner scored Lynchburg's first goal from the penalty spot after a cross deflected off a Roanoke defender's hand. Orner's goal is her third of the season, while the Hornets have converted both of their penalty kick attempts during the 2026 campaign.
Both teams traded opportunities in the coming minutes, although Lynchburg earned the lion's share of possession. In the 29th minute, the offense created a shooting onsluaght from inside the six-yard box, and Makayla Hargrove converted the fourth ricochet for the second goal.
The Hornets maintained a 9-3 shots advantage throughout the first 45 minutes to hold their 2-0 lead into the break.
To open the second half, neither team claimed a distinct advantage, while several fouls resulted in yellow cards in the midfield. The physical play continually calmed as Lynchburg dominated the possession battle into the final portion of the match.
Leigha Gronau made a statement in the 82nd minute with a looping shot from outside the 18-yard box for her sixth goal of the season. With space near the center of the field, Gronau lifted her shot above the keeper's hands to add insurance.
Sejal Wellington found the exclamation mark in the 90th minute with an assist from Abby Nadeau. Entering the final seconds, Nadeau attempted a shot from outside the box, and Suchy's save deflected into open space. Wellington popped the net for the second goal of her senior season.
Lynchburg (12-2-1) will aim to protect its three-match unbeaten streak on Wednesday, Oct. 21 as the Hornets host Guilford (2-8-2) at 4:00 p.m. for the regular-season home finale.
