Northfield, Minn. – The University of Lynchburg cross country teams battled windy conditions at the Running of the Cows national preview meet, as the men's team placed 16th out of 33 teams and the women's team posted five season-best performances.
The Hornets competed at the Bill Huyck Championship Cross Country Course, which will host the 2026 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships in November.
Men's 8k
Against several top opponents from Division III, the Lynchburg men maintained a 29-second spread among their top five performers to clinch 16th with 500 points.
Ty Blair led the Hornets with a 25:38.5 season best for 83rd place. After the first kilometer, Blair made up over 100 positions by steadily climbing throughout the race.
Cameron Sidebotham (25:44.7) and Nate Cochran (25:45.2) finished neck and neck to place 95th and 97th, respectively. Like Blair, the pair improved their positioning significantly in the final seven kilometers, especially in the first half of the race.
Alex Paciello clocked 25:48.1 for 110th place, while Aidan Riggle closed the scoring with a 26:07.9 performance for 156th. Randy White (26:16.3) placed 175th, and James Mulcahy submitted a 26:32.2 mark for 202nd to finish sixth and seventh for the Hornets, respectively.
Lynchburg, ranked 26th in the nation, finished in front of two ranked opponents in the team standings.
Women's 6k
The Hornets placed 31st in the women's team standings, maintaining a 1:18 spread among the top five. The spread marked a 47-second improvement from the women's team top-five spread at the NCAA South Region Preview two weeks ago.
Adelynn Carpenter's 23:19.5 performance led the Hornets as the junior placed 144th. Carpenter made up 56 positions after the first kilometer.
Savannah Wood clocked a personal-best 24:06.6 performance for 240th, while Winter Tietjen crossed the line in 24:12.3 for a season best. To close the scoring, Hannah Edwards (24:36.1) placed 271st, while Sydney Davis (24:37.3) placed 273rd with season bests.
Ella Warren finished directly behind her freshman counterpart, submitting a 24:38.6 display for 274th. Sam Karwacki crossed the line in 24:48.9 for 285th.

Lynchburg returns to competition on Saturday, Oct. 17 in a split-squad weekend, as the Hornets divide their attention between the Connecticut College Invitational in New London, Conn. and the Roanoke South Region Showdown in Salem, Va.
