Amherst, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team got back into action with spring competition at Sweet Briar on Friday afternoon and was nipped after tying in team score but falling in raw score, 770.5-748.5.
The No. 1 Hornets (6-1) matched up against No. 5 Sweet Briar (3-3) for the second time this season and first time on the road. The squads started off in the Flat, where the Vixens claimed a 3-2 advantage.
Amaya Bellfield and
Abby Zemp got each of the Hornets' team points in the event. Bellfield earned MOP with a score of 79.5, while Zemp scored a 75.5 to defeat her opponent by six points.
Abigail Devlin lost against Gracie Robertson by just half a point, 76-75.5, while Maggie Booth beat out Lynchburg's
Rebecca Collier by just one point, 73-72.Â
In the Fences, Lynchburg took a slight 3-2 edge to tie the meet in team score. Bellfield,
Madeline Rubin, and
Stella Patenaude were the three Hornet performers to earn team points in the Fences. Bellfield displayed a stellar score of 85 for the highest score of the day by any athlete. Rubin was close behind with an 81, while Patenaude earned a 79.5.
Mary Katherine Ragsdale added a 77.5 performance but fell short against Booth, who scored an 81.Â
Although the Hornets had a narrow advantage after Flat with a raw score of 370.5-370, the Vixens owned a 400.5-378 advantage in the raw score from Fences to earn the victory. To view the complete results from today's meet,

Next up, the NCEA squad will travel to Charleston on Friday, Feb. 27 to complete the home-and-home series against the Cougars.
