Roanoke, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg IHSA equestrian squad took a trip to Hollins University for the Hollins IHSA this past week and came away with one first-place finish and one second-place finish.
On Saturday, Lynchburg finished second overall with a total score of 31.
Amaya Bellfield earned a first-place finish in Open Fences A and later followed up with another first-place ride in Open Flat. Additionally,
Zoey Horn placed fifth in Open Fences B. Intermediate competition added valuable points, highlighted by a first-place finish from
McKenzie Burch in Intermediate Fences and a second-place result from
Ava Jackson in Intermediate Flat.
In the Limit divisions, Lynchburg's
Kriston Parr earned a sixth-place finish in Limit Fences A while Clair Humphries took fourth in Limit Fences B and
Ashby Watts claimed fifth in Limit Fences C. The team secured three victories on the flat in Limit Flat A, B, and C from
Emily Futty,
Adam Matejko, and Humphries, respectively. Novice competition included a fourth-place finish in Novice A from
Natalie Holdren and a fifth-place result in Novice B from
Annabella Shores, while Introductory competition saw Amaya Shuler produce a fourth-place ride.
On Sunday, Lynchburg improved on its performance, earning first overall with a total of 47 points and 44 with the drop score. The team swept the Open divisions with first-place finishes from Bellfield in both Open Fences A and Open Flat. Horn rode to a fourth-place finish in Open Fences B. Jackson took first in both Intermediate Fences and Intermediate Flat.
Limit competition brought additional top results, including a second-place finish in Limit Fences B from Parr and a third-place ride in Limit Fences C from Watts. On the flat, the Hornets'
Samantha DiPrato placed sixth in Limit Flat A,
Mackenzie Overstreet placed third in Limit Flat B, and
Ava Hogan earned first in Limit Flat C. The Novice division produced two wins in Novice A from Shores and Novice B from
Reese Albany, while Introductory rider Hallan earned a third-place finish.
Next up for the IHSA group is the Virginia Tech show on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. before IHSA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va. on Sunday, March 1 at 10 a.m.
