Blacksburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team took its talents to Virginia Tech for the VT IHSA and tied for first with 37 points on Saturday.

The Hornets opened the show with a strong result in Open Fences A, where Zoey Horn claimed first place. The Open divisions continued to add points in Open Flat B with another first-place finish from Amaya Bellfield. These early rides contributed significantly to the team's total in a competitive field.

In the Intermediate division, Lynchburg's McKenzie Burch earned a fifth-place finish in Intermediate Fences and Ava Jackson claimed a sixth-place result in Intermediate Flat. The Limit division brought additional points, highlighted by a third-place finish from Ashby Watts in Limit Fences. On the flat, Clair Humphreys secured first place in Limit Flat B and Alexandra Miller added a third-place finish in Limit Flat C.

The Novice division saw Ashlyn Barksdale produce a victory in Novice A. Lynchburg's Annabella Shores also recorded a second-place finish in Novice C. In Pre Novice competition, Sophia Schorr earned third place, and Amaya Shuler added a fourth-place result in the Introductory division.

Across the divisions, Lynchburg riders appeared in the top placings in Open, Limit, Novice, Pre Novice, and Introductory classes. With first-place finishes in Open Fences A, Open Flat B, Limit Flat B, and Novice A, along with additional top-three results throughout the day, the team accumulated 34 points.

The combined efforts across classes secured Lynchburg's position at the top of the standings alongside Washington and Lee at the Virginia Tech-hosted show, marking another strong team performance in IHSA competition.

The Hornets quickly turn around for the IHSA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va. tomorrow, Sunday, March 1, starting at 10 a.m.
