Lynchburg IHSA Squad Competes At Findlay TOC

Findlay, Ohio -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team competed at the Tournament of Champions hosted by the University of Findlay on Saturday. Lynchburg was represented against a competitive field by two teams, Team Black and Team Red.

Team Red delivered a strong overall performance, finishing second with a total score of 32. Team Black followed with 17 points and an eleventh-place finish. Across the day, Lynchburg riders earned points in multiple divisions, with several top placings contributing to the team totals.

In the Open Flat division, Lynchburg secured second-place finishes in both sections. Jessica McElhaney placed in the A class for team Black, while McKenzie Burch placed in the B class for team Red. The Intermediate division proved to be a highlight, as Ava Jackson of Team Red won Intermediate Fences, while Adam Matejko from Team Black captured first place in Intermediate Flat A. Team Red's Ava Hogan also added a fifth-place finish in Intermediate Flat B.

Limit classes brought additional contributions for both teams. Ashby Watts of Team Red earned a sixth-place finish in Limit Fences, while on the flat, Team Red's Emily Futty claimed first place in Limit Flat A. Ruby Suess from Team Black added a fifth-place result in Limit Flat B.

In Novice competition, Team Red's Annabella Shores recorded a first-place finish in Novice B, while Team Black's Sophia Schorr placed sixth in Novice A. Introductory riders also contributed, with Team Black's Amaya Shuler finishing fifth in Introductory A and Team Red's Hallan placing fourth in Introductory B.

Across all divisions, Lynchburg riders appeared consistently in the placings, with first-place finishes in Intermediate Fences, Intermediate Flat A, Limit Flat A, and Novice B. These results helped propel Team Red to a second-place finish overall, while Team Black added valuable experience and points against a deep field of competition. The combined efforts of both teams reflected a balanced performance across fences and flat classes at the national-level event in Findlay.

The Hornets' IHSA group will continue to prepare for IHSA Zones on Saturday, April 4 in Baltimore, Md. at Goucher College.
