No. 2/2 Baseball Beats No.9/6 Bridgewater Twice on the Road

Bridgewater, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team traveled to Bridgewater for an ODAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon and came away with a pair of wins, taking game one 5-2 before securing a 7-6 victory in game two.

In game one, Lynchburg (29-3-1, 16-0-1 ODAC) struck early and controlled the contest throughout in a 5-2 win over No. 9 Bridgewater (28-8- 10-7 ODAC). Benton Jones led off the scoring with a double before Jack Pokorak launched a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Hornets an early advantage.

After a quiet stretch through the middle innings, Lynchburg broke the game open in the seventh. Ryder Warren delivered a two-run home run — his third in as many games — and Quinn Madden added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-1.

Tyler Kaltreider earned the win, tossing 6.2 innings while allowing one run on eight hits with three strikeouts. The bullpen combination of Austin Riney and Colin McGuire closed out the final frames to secure the victory.

At the plate, Jones finished with three hits, while Pokorak and Kyle Flora each recorded two-hit performances. Warren drove in two runs, and Madden added an RBI in the win.

In game two, Lynchburg rallied late to complete the sweep with a 7-6 win over Bridgewater (28-8). The Hornets built an early lead with two runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Kyle Moshier, and extended the advantage in the third on a two-run home run by Quinn Madden.

Bridgewater responded with a four-run sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead, but Lynchburg answered in the seventh. Sean Pokorak delivered an RBI single to cut into the deficit before the Hornets completed the comeback in the eighth. Brandon Garcia tied the game with an RBI single, and Jack Pokorak followed with a go-ahead RBI single to make it 7-6.

The Pokorak brothers played a key role in the nightcap, combining for five of Lynchburg's eight hits in the contest, including multiple hits from both Jack and Sean.

Lucas Marrero earned the win in relief, while Trent Judd recorded the save with 2.1 scoreless innings to close out the game.

Madden and Jack Pokorak each drove in two runs in the nightcap, while Garcia, Moshier, and Sean Pokorak also recorded RBI in the victory as Lynchburg secured the conference sweep.

The Hornets continue their toughest stretch of the regular season with a midweek matchup against RV Randolph-Macon (19-11, 10-6 ODAC) on Tuesday, April 21 at Fox Field
