Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team welcome ODAC opponent Guilford to Shellenberger Field and earned an emphatic 25-0 triumph on Wednesday night.
The No. 2/2 Hornets (10-1, 5-0 ODAC) controlled the game against the Quakers (2-8, 1-5) from the opening faceoff, scoring seven first-quarter goals while holding Guilford without a shot.
Cole Oprandi opened the scoring, followed by goals from
Finn Schmidt,
Spencer Vandenberg,
Liam Holman,
Kayden Hinchey,
Parker Sealey, and
Riley Hastings as Lynchburg built a 7-0 advantage after the opening period.
Lynchburg continued to build momentum in the second quarter, adding six more goals.
Mark Rubley opened the period off an assist from
Brodie Mason, and
Will Rubley followed with an unassisted goal.
Quincy White and
Mikey Richardson each found the net, while
James Bauer and
Hudson Royer also scored to extend the lead to 13-0 at halftime.
The Hornets pulled away further in the third quarter with seven goals. White and Richardson each scored again, while
Drew Schmidt finished a pass from White.
Evan Yale and
Alex Morton added unassisted goals, and Richardson completed his hat trick before
Josh Caramagno capped the run as Lynchburg led 20-0 entering the fourth quarter.
Lynchburg closed the game with five fourth-quarter goals.
Ethan Carr opened the scoring in the final period, followed by
Henry Fowler and
Nathan Miller. Yale added his second goal of the game, and
Ryan Hildebrand completed the scoring for the Hornets.
Richardson led Lynchburg with three goals, while White added two goals and two assists. Yale also scored twice as 21 different Hornets found the back of the net. Lynchburg outshot Guilford 46-10, held a 51-9 advantage in ground balls, and won all 29 faceoffs in the victory. Four Lynchburg goalkeepers combined for two saves in the shutout.
Next up, the Hornets host ODAC foe No. 20/19 Randolph-Macon on Saturday, April 11 at 7 p.m.
