No. 14 Lynchburg Ousts Maryville, 4-0

Lookout Mountain, Ga. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team rolled past Maryville on the first day of a two-game stretch in Georgia, claiming a 4-0 victory on Friday afternoon at Scotland Yard.

Jefferson Lopez Coreas scored twice for the No. 14 Hornets (3-1) during the first half, recording his first two goals of the season. He opened the scoring against the Scots (0-1-3) at 20:32 with an assist from Noah Coughlin before doubling Lynchburg's advantage at 30:41, again off an assist from Coughlin.

Carlos Andres Romero added an unassisted goal at 40:28, his first of the season, to give the Hornets a 3-0 halftime lead. Chris Wiley completed the scoring shortly after the break, registering his second goal of the year at 47:58.

Lynchburg finished with a 33-6 advantage in total shots and placed 15 attempts on goal. The Hornets recorded 17 shots during the opening half and 16 in the second. Maryville took one first-half shot and five after halftime, with one attempt reaching the target.

Jefferson Lopez Coreas led Lynchburg with eight shots, including four on goal. Fischer Daniel took five shots and put one on target, while Wiley recorded three shots and one goal. Chris Bovo, Angel Romero and William Casey each added two attempts. Bruno Rihl Silva, Cristobal Massanet, Sean DeLorenzo, Jacson Shepherd, Will Clark, Nathan Myers and Carlos Andres Romero each placed a shot on goal.

Vikram Couto played the opening 70:37 in goal and made one save. Stefan Kapitanov completed the final 19:23 as the two goalkeepers combined for the shutout. Maryville goalkeeper Tanner Ricks made nine saves, and the Scots recorded two team saves.

The Hornets earned 10 corner kicks, including six in the first half, while allowing two. Lynchburg held 64 percent of the possession and was called for nine fouls and five offsides. Maryville committed 11 fouls and was not ruled offside. Lynchburg received the match's only yellow card, and neither team was issued a red card.

The men's soccer team will finish its two-game road stand against Covenant tomorrow, Saturday, September 12 at noon.
