Lynchburg, Va. -- In the first two home matches of the season, the University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team won six consecutive sets against Mary Baldwin and Geneva on Friday in Turner Gymnasium.

The RV Hornets (6-0) have gone six consecutive matches without losing a set to start the season, the first time the program hasn't dropped a set through its first six matches in school history. The Hornets began the doubleheader with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-9 win over Mary Baldwin. Lynchburg totaled 41 kills, 40 assists, 44 digs, 12 service aces and eight team blocks while posting a .326 hitting percentage.

Cambre Phillips led the Hornets with nine kills and hit .467 on 15 attempts. She also recorded seven digs, three aces and one block assist. Noelle Slye finished with five kills on eight attempts for a .625 hitting percentage, while Kate Hardie produced five kills without an error on six swings to hit .833.

Avery Hurley distributed a team-high 15 assists and added 10 digs and two aces. Cara Taylor recorded seven assists, while Kenstin Phelps added six. Emma Cash served four aces, and Lynchburg received one solo block and two block assists from Leah DiNardo.

The Hornets hit .379 in the opening set before closing the match with 15 kills and one error on 26 attempts for a .538 third-set percentage. Mary Baldwin finished with 14 kills and a .013 hitting percentage.

Lynchburg completed the day with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-8 sweep of Geneva. The Hornets registered 36 kills, 35 assists, 50 digs, eight aces and nine team blocks. Geneva recorded 13 kills with 19 errors and finished with a minus-.071 hitting percentage.

DiNardo and Hardie shared the team lead with eight kills apiece. DiNardo hit .500 on 14 attempts and contributed one solo block and six block assists. Hardie added six digs and two block assists. Ava Meinhardt recorded seven kills with a .312 hitting percentage, while Tori Williamson finished with six kills, two aces and three block assists.

Alexis Scipione led Lynchburg with 15 assists and added seven digs and two service aces. Phelps supplied 11 assists, while Mia Hinkamper collected a match-high 15 digs. Phillips recorded 11 digs, four kills and two aces.

Lynchburg finished the Geneva match by recording eight kills without an attack error on 18 attempts, producing a .444 third-set hitting percentage. The two matches lasted a combined two hours and 23 minutes, with attendances of 115 against Mary Baldwin and 198 against Geneva.

The women's volleyball team hits the court again tomorrow, Saturday, September 12 against Warren Wilson and Piedmont.
