RV Hornets Set Program Record With Eight Straight Sweeps To Begin Season

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team set a program record with eight consecutive straight-set victories to open the season, earning sweeps over Piedmont and Warren Wilson on Saturday in Turner Gymnasium.

The RV Hornets (8-0) have achieved immense success with a flawless record of eight straight match wins to start the 2026 campaign. The Hornets opened the doubleheader with a 25-14, 25-11, 25-21 win over Piedmont. Lynchburg finished with 46 kills and only seven attack errors on 100 attempts, producing a .390 hitting percentage. The Hornets also totaled 42 assists, 47 digs, 11 service aces and eight team blocks.

Cambre Phillips led Lynchburg with 15 kills and hit .467 on 30 attempts. She added eight digs, two aces and one block assist. Leah DiNardo recorded seven kills without an error, finishing with a .583 hitting percentage and two block assists. Noelle Slye added seven kills, one solo block and two block assists.

Dylan Cline registered four kills on six attempts, while Kate Hardie finished with three kills, three aces and four digs. Kenstin Phelps led the Hornets with 12 assists, and Alexis Scipione added 13. Mia Hinkamper collected a match-high 15 digs.

Lynchburg hit .343 in the first set, .464 in the second and .378 in the third. Piedmont finished with 23 kills and a .074 hitting percentage. The Hornets completed the doubleheader with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-8 victory over Warren Wilson. Lynchburg recorded 36 kills with seven errors on 91 attempts for a .319 hitting percentage. The team added 32 assists, 42 digs, 13 aces and one team block.

Brooke DeAtley led Lynchburg with seven kills and hit .385. Dylan Cline contributed six kills without an error on 19 attempts. Ashlyn Davis and Madi Pratt each registered five kills without an error, with both hitting .714 on seven attempts. Pratt also served four aces.

Cara Taylor totaled 13 assists, five digs and three aces. Avery Hurley added nine assists, six digs and one ace. Hinkamper recorded four aces, while Emma Cash finished with four assists and eight digs. Haydyn Proscia added seven digs.

The Hornets closed the Warren Wilson match with 14 kills and two errors on 29 attempts, hitting .414 in the third set. Warren Wilson recorded 22 kills and hit .095. The Piedmont match lasted one hour and 13 minutes, followed by a one-hour, 10-minute match against Warren Wilson.

Lynchburg now heads into its first conference action of the season against Washington and Lee on Wednesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. in Lexington, Va.
