Hornets Opens ODAC Play With Loss To Generals

Lexington, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season to Washington and Lee on Wednesday night in Holekamp Gym.

The RV Hornets (8-1, 0-1 ODAC) fell to the RV Generals (6-1, 1-0) by set scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18. The Hornets finished with 33 kills and 18 attack errors on 139 attempts for a .108 hitting percentage. Lynchburg recorded 12 kills in the opening set, 11 in the second and 10 in the third. The Hornets posted their highest set hitting percentage in the second at .130.

Kate Hardie led Lynchburg with nine kills and added seven digs. Tori Williamson recorded seven kills, 18 digs and one block assist. Ava Meinhardt and Leah DiNardo contributed six kills apiece. Meinhardt hit a team-best .267 while registering one solo block, and DiNardo added two block assists.

Kenstin Phelps led the Hornets with 15 assists and also collected three digs and one service ace. Alexis Scipione contributed 12 assists, three digs and one ace, while Avery Hurley added five assists and two digs.

Cambre Phillips led Lynchburg with 19 digs. Mia Hinkamper followed with 14 digs and one service ace, and Williamson added 18. The Hornets finished with 73 total digs, three service aces and three team blocks.

Washington and Lee recorded 44 kills with 11 attack errors on 131 attempts, producing a .252 hitting percentage. The Generals totaled 79 digs, four service aces and eight team blocks. Lynchburg committed six service errors, while Washington and Lee had two. The match featured 13 tie scores and four lead changes. Six ties occurred during the second set, while the third included four ties.

Next up, Lynchburg returns to Turner Gym to take on Catholic on Saturday, September 19 at noon.
