Danville, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team earned its first win of conference action on Wednesday night with a sweep against Averett in the the E. Stuart James Grant Center.
The RV Hornets (10-1, 1-1 ODAC) defeated the Cougars (1-6, 1-1) by set scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-9. Lynchburg finished with 47 kills and 13 attack errors on 110 attempts for a .309 hitting percentage. The Hornets improved their efficiency in each set, hitting .208 in the first, .353 in the second and .429 in the third. Lynchburg recorded 18 kills in the opening set, 16 in the second and 13 in the final set.
Tori Williamson led the Hornets with 11 kills and hit .290 on 31 attempts.
Kate Hardie followed with 10 kills, five digs, three service aces and two block assists. Hardie posted a .304 hitting percentage.
Cambre Phillips recorded seven kills without an error on 20 attempts, finishing with a .350 hitting percentage. She also contributed nine digs and one service ace.
Ava Meinhardt added six kills and hit .400, while
Leah DiNardo finished with six kills and Lynchburg's lone solo block.
Kenstin Phelps directed the offense with 26 assists. Phelps also totaled three kills, eight digs, two aces and one block assist.
Alexis Scipione added seven assists, two kills and one ace during one set of action.
Mia Hinkamper led Lynchburg with 17 digs and supplied five assists.
Haydyn Proscia recorded nine digs and one ace, while
Avery Hurley added four digs and three assists. The Hornets totaled 47 assists, 58 digs, eight service aces and six team blocks. Averett finished with 21 kills and 17 attack errors on 104 attempts for a .038 hitting percentage. Lynchburg limited the Cougars to six kills and a minus-.062 percentage in the third set.
The Hornets return to Turner Gym this weekend for two contests, first against Roanoke on Friday, September 25 at 6 p.m., then on Saturday, September 26 at 11 a.m. for the team's senior day.
