Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team battled its first conference opponent of the season in Randolph-Macon to a 1-1 tie on Saturday night at Shellenberger Field.

The Hornets moved to 6-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play, while the Yellow Jackets moved to 4-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference. Randolph-Macon opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Damien Jackson tossed a throw-in that touched the finger tips of netminder Vikram Couto and found the net for his fifth goal of the season. Lynchburg answered just under five minutes later as Noah Coughlin scored his second goal of the year at the 10:21 mark. Bruno Rihl Silva provided the assist on the equalizer.

Lynchburg generated seven shots during the opening half, including three attempts on goal. Matthew Viscuso placed a shot on target in the 23rd minute, and Fischer Daniel recorded another attempt on frame in the 36th minute.

The Hornets continued to create opportunities after halftime, outshooting Randolph-Macon 10-1 during the second period. Jefferson Lopez Coreas forced a save in the 57th minute before Rihl Silva registered consecutive shots on goal in the 72nd and 73rd minutes. Evan Pask added Lynchburg's final shot on target in the 77th minute.

Lynchburg finished with a 17-3 advantage in total shots and placed seven attempts on goal. The Hornets also earned all six corner kicks in the match and held 68 percent of the possession. Randolph-Macon goalkeeper Ethan Chenoweth made five saves, while the Yellow Jackets added one team save.

Lopez Coreas led Lynchburg with four shots, while Rihl Silva and Coughlin recorded two apiece. Rihl Silva placed both of his attempts on frame, and Coughlin scored on one of his two shots.
Vikram Couto played all 90 minutes in goal for Lynchburg and made one save. The Hornets committed 11 fouls compared with 10 by Randolph-Macon and were called offside five times.

Lynchburg will have one week to prepare for its next outing at Batten in Virginia Beach, Va. on Saturday, October 3 at 4 p.m.
