Hornets Stamp Code Red Victory Over Randolph-Macon

Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team posted their seventh shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over Randolph-Macon, which included goals from Lune DenHartog and Teigan Casey.

The Hornets' defense allowed just three shots, while Lynchburg boasted a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Julia Salo registered one save and played the full 90 minutes, clinching her sixth clean sheet when starting between the pipes.

In the opening half, Randolph-Macon failed to file a shot as both defenses created a physical battle in the midfield. Neither team crafted a dangerous chance in the run of play, although DenHartog's set piece from midfield gave Lynchburg the first-half advantage.

The Hornets crowded the box with a free kick from the center circle. As DenHartog lofted the ball into the box, it took a steep bounce to float over the keeper's hands for the first goal.

Out of the halftime break, both offenses began creating more scoring opportunities. The Hornets forced a pair of saves, including a goal-line denial in the 75th minute.

In the 84th minute, Teigan Casey claimed her team-leading fifth goal of the season off a deflection in the box. Makayla Hargrove capitalized off a Yellow Jackets' turnover deep in their defensive third, and with a low-rolling pass, forced a deflection that led to Casey's score.

Lynchburg dominated possession for the final minutes to clinch the victory, which marked their third of the season at Shellenberger Field.

Wednesday's result is Lynchburg's first Code Red victory since toppling Bridgewater in 2023 with a 2-1 scoreline. The Hornets' 9-1 start to the season is their best through 10 games since 2018.

Next time out, Lynchburg (9-1) will travel to Lexington, Va. to face No. 2 Washington & Lee (8-0) on Saturday, Oct. 3 at noon in a clash between the ODAC's top two teams.
