Joseph Carroll

Joseph Carroll enters his second year as an assistant track & field coach at the University of Lynchburg after helping guide the program through one of the most successful seasons in school history during his first year with the Hornets.

During the 2025–26 campaign, Carroll established himself as one of the premier young distance coaches in Division III track & field and cross country. Under his direction, Alex Jordan broke both the school and conference records in the 5,000 meters (14:07i) and 10,000 meters (29:19), while Chasen Hunt ran 8:02 for 3,000 meters — one of the top ten performances in Division III history. Carroll coached two All-Americans and oversaw four All-America selections, while helping athletes earn five NCAA national meet selections and seven national qualifying marks. He also helped lead the men’s team to a fifth-place finish at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, the second-best finish in program history.

At the conference level, Carroll helped guide the men’s and women’s programs to conference championship and runner-up finishes across the indoor and outdoor seasons. His athletes combined for 10 ODAC championships, 26 All-ODAC honors, and 31 All-Region selections.

Previously, Carroll served as an assistant coach with the Northeastern University track & field program, working primarily with the women’s distance team. During his time with the Huskies, he helped the program secure a top-three conference finish in cross country and coached a national record holder in the 600 meters.

Carroll brings a decorated background as both a student-athlete and coach. He competed at the NCAA Division II level at Assumption University and was part of the most successful stretch in program history. A two-year captain for the Greyhounds’ cross country and track & field programs, Carroll earned four All-Region honors and three Northeast-10 All-Conference selections during his collegiate career.

Before joining Northeastern, Carroll served as an assistant coach at St. John's High School, where he mentored more than 30 student-athletes in both athletic and personal development. He also worked as a contributor for LetsRun.com, providing coverage and analysis of collegiate and professional track & field for an audience of more than one million monthly readers.

A native of Cohasset, Carroll competed at Cohasset High School, where he was a member of a state championship cross country team.
