Michael Veverka assumed his post leading the Lynchburg golf program in August 2017 and was promoted to director of men's and women's golf in the summer of 2018 along with the announcement that the institution was adding women's golf in the 2019-20 academic year.

He has coached 17 men’s players to All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference performances in his time in the Hill City, including NCAA champion and ODAC Player of the Year Eddie Coffren V. Before nationally qualifying in 2022, the Hornets had not produced a national qualifier in two decades.

Alan Van Asch headlined the 2026 postseason for the men's team, as Veverka led the senior to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Van Asch's performance marked the second consecutive year for the Hornets securing a top-five individual finish. Additionally, Lynchburg earned four All-ODAC honors, while the team finished fifth at the ODAC Championships.

In 2024 and 2025, the men's team claimed back-to-back ODAC Championships, returning to the top of the conference for the first time since 1989. Veverka earned ODAC Coach of the Year honors in 2024 to become just the second coach in program history to receive the distinction. Along with Coffren V's national title, the men's team placed seventh in the nation at the 2025 NCAA Championships. Veverka led Coffren V to All-America First Team honors in 2025.

Lynchburg's men's team finished the 2022-23 campaign ranked 21st nationally. Andrew Watson earned the program’s first ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in 2023.

The men tied for second at the ODAC championship in 2023 with a program-best four All-ODAC golfers.

In his first season as the Hornets' head coach, the Lynchburg men's team broke the program record for lowest two-round tournament score and lowest team round. His teams have since broken Lynchburg's low team tournament score and low season average records, and Hornet golfers have set the low round, low tournament, and low career average marks as well.

The women's golf program exploded onto the scene in 2019-20 under Veverka's tutelage, totaling five tournament medalists, three All-ODAC golfers, two All-State players, and four ODAC golfers of the week in the pandemic-shortened season. In the years since, the Hornet women have piled up 17 All-ODAC honors (including 2022 ODAC player of the year and tournament medalist Emily Brubaker), six All-State players and two All-State rookies of the year. Brubaker became Lynchburg women's golf's first-ever national qualifier in 2022, and in 2024, she secured VaSID Player of the Year honors.

The women's team wrapped up 2025 with a third-place finish at the ODAC Championships, while Lily Rowe and Gabbie Hollberg earned All-ODAC honors to wrap up the season. In 2026, the Hornets finished third in the conference, led by Grace Saunders' ninth-place result.

In 2024, Veverka led Brubaker back to the NCAA Championships, finishing her career as a four-time All-ODAC performer and two-time ODAC Golfer of the Year. The women's team placed second at the ODAC Championships for the fourth year in a row.

Veverka came to Lynchburg from Georgia Southern University, where he has spent the past two years as the PGA assistant professional at the GSU golf course in Statesboro, Ga. At Georgia Southern, Veverka led a staff of 30 student employees, oversaw the course's marketing operations along with golf instruction.

The Brunswick, Md., native also graduated from GSU with a masters degree in education.

Veverka is a 2014 alumnus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he competed for the Hawks' golf team and served as a team captain.

He comes to Lynchburg already familiar with the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. In the 2014-15 season, he served as a volunteer assistant for the Bridgewater College women's golf team while also working as the assistant pro at Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg, Va.

His prior experience includes PGA internships at The Hollows Golf Club in Montpelier, Va., Norbeck Country Club in Olney, Md., and Maryland National Golf Club in Middletown, Md.
