Amherst native Mike Jennings joined the Hornet staff in the spring of 2010 and has helped Lynchburg to four NCAA tournament appearances in that time. In 2019, Jennings and the rest of the Lynchburg softball staff earned Atlantic Region coaching staff of the year honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

A staple as the program's first base coach, Jennings brings a wealth of experience to the bench. He served as the assistant coach at Sweet Briar College for nine seasons after helping establish the Vixen program. Jennings also was involved helping coach a local traveling softball squad, the Scrappers, for the past decade-plus. 

Jennings is a 1976 graduate of Amherst County High School, and assisted the Lancer baseball team from 1998 until the 2003 season. He worked at Greif Corporation, Riverville Mill in Gladstone, where was an industrial maintenance mechanic for three decades. He retired from the company in December 2021.
