Anitra Thomas joined the Lynchburg women's basketball staff as an assistant coach in July 2021.

A Lynchburg native and Brookville High School graduate, Thomas joins the Hornets after two seasons as the head girls’ basketball coach at Lynchburg City’s E.C. Glass High School, where she revitalized the Hilltoppers program into a regional power. She led Glass to a Region 4D runner-up finish in 2019, earning regional coach of the year honors, and was voted Seminole District coach of the year in both 2019 and 2020.

Thomas was a standout at NCAA Division III Christopher Newport, where she helped the Captains to three NCAA tournament appearances, including a national semifinal and two Round of 16 showings. Known as a 3-point sharpshooter, she shot better than 40 percent from long range in her career and averaged 6.6 points per game in four seasons. She was also tremendous in high school at Brookville, topping the Bees’ single-season and career scoring records and earning All-State and Region 3C player of the year honors.

Thomas graduated from Christopher Newport in 2018 with a degree in biology and taught science at Lynchburg’s Dunbar Middle School while coaching at Glass.
