Hornet Field Hockey notches Seventh-Straight Win
LYNCHBURG, VA - The 12th-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team earned its seventh-straight win Sunday as the Hornets defeated visiting Shenandoah University 4-1 in non-conference play.
Junior attack Deanna Smith (pictured - Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) opened the scoring at the 12:43 mark on assists from Shelley Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) and Lindsay Leonard (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) on a penalty corner. LC struck again a couple of minutes later as Milks netted a goal off a crossing pass from Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River). Leonard scored five minutes before intermission and LC led 3-0 at halftime. Weir scored after collecting a loose ball in front of the Shenandoah cage 48 minutes into the contest, and SU got on the scoreboard in the final minutes on a Paola Aguilar goal.
Sarah Clark made 26 saves for Shenandoah (6-5). Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) stopped three shots for LC.
The Hornets (10-2) travel to Randolph-Macon College Tuesday at 4 p.m.
