Lynchburg Men's Basketball Drops Thriller to CNU in Double OT
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The Lynchburg College men's basketball team dropped a close game to Christopher Newport University in double overtime by a score of 108-100 in non-conference play on Friday night at the Freeman Center on the campus of CNU.
Despite holding a 41-34 lead at halftime, Lynchburg could not stop CNU from coming back. The second half went back and forth until the Captains Conley Taylor hit a layup with 35 seconds left to send the game to overtime.
With Christopher Newport holding a 91-88 lead with one second left in the first overtime, sophomore Michael Wims (Standardsville, VA/William Monroe) hit a three-pointer to send the game to a second overtime. But Newport's offense was too much for the Hornets as Lynchburg fell by a final of 108-100.
Junior Nate Campbell (Cary, NC/Cary) led Lynchburg in scoring with 29 points, going 13-26 from the field. Campbell also brought down 10 defensive rebounds and five offensive rebounds.
Sophomore Michael Glover (Verona, VA/Spotswood) was second on the team with 18 points and six total rebounds, going 3-5 from beyond the arc. Freshman Andrew Simmons (Chesterfield, VA/Meadowbrook) added 11 points and four assists as well.
Lynchburg (0-2) will play Mary Washington on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to close out the Christopher Newport Classic.
