Top-Ranked Messiah Defeats #23 LC Women 4-0

            GRANTHAM, PA - The Lynchburg College women's soccer team hung even with the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III, but Messiah College finished strong for a 4-0 victory over the visiting Hornets Saturday afternoon.

            The contest was scoreless at halftime, with LC holding a 6-5 edge in shots and talking all of the game's three corner kicks. But the second half was all Falcons, with Corrine Wulf scoring at 51:46 and Jessica Shirk finding the back of the net a minute later. Amanda Naeher added two insurance goals a minute apart late in the game.

            Messiah (6-0) out-shot the Hornets for the game 16-10 and had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

            The Hornets (3-2) open their Old Dominion Athletic Conference season Sunday at Sweet Briar College at 2 p.m.
