Lynchburg women's soccer loses to Emory in overtime
Salem, VA - The No. 4 ranked Lynchburg women's soccer team lost a close game to Emory University on Sunday, losing 2-1 in overtime in the Roanoke College Kickoff tournament.
Lynchburg (1-1) scored first at the 11:39 mark of the first half with a goal from junior midfielder Brittany Klippstein (Springfield, VA/West Springfield). Klippstein took the direct kick just outside of the box to give the Hornets the early lead.
Emory scored just a couple minutes before halftime as senior Lauren Smith put in a header off a corner kick at 42:34 to tie the game at one. After a close, scoreless second half, the game headed into overtime.
Just six minutes in to the extra period, Emory junior Caroline Coates score off a rebound from a corner kick at the 96:30 mark to give Emory the win. Hornet freshman Karsen Schottleutner (McKinney, TX/Ursuline Academy) had seven saves in the game.
Lynchburg will return home to host Salisbury on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. to kick off the Shellenberger Soccer Classic.
