Forest, Va. – Makayla Hargrove earned ODAC Offensive Player of the Week laurels after scoring a crucial goal and recording two assists in the University of Lynchburg women's soccer team's recent victories over Guilford and Bridgewater, the league office announced Monday.
The distinction marked Hargrove's first Player of the Week award of her career, while Leigha Gronau and Julia Salo were recognized earlier in the season. The Hornets had not captured three Player of the Week honors in a single season since 2021.
On Wednesday, Hargrove tallied an assist in the team's 5-0 victory against Guilford with a give-and-go pass to Gronau. Lynchburg scored each of its goals in the final 46 minutes of the match.
In Saturday's 2-1 victory over Bridgewater, Hargrove set up Gronau's first goal with a quick pass to Ally Hopkins in the box. Hopkins connected with her freshman counterpart with a through ball to help Lynchburg find an early score.
To extend the lead, Hargrove gained possession in the box and netted the Hornets' second goal on a pivot. The conversion represented Hargrove's ninth goal of the season, and the Charlottesville, Va. native secured the team lead in points with 23.
Hargrove tallied a goal or assist in four consecutive matches, dating back to the team's 1-0 victory at Randolph on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Lynchburg concludes its regular-season campaign on Tuesday, Oct. 27 with a trip to Virginia Beach, Va. to face No. 18 Batten at 6:00 p.m.
