EMU Defeats LC Women 72-69 in Barnburner
LYNCHBURG, VA - The Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team survived a tough challenge from Lynchburg College Tuesday night to win 72-69 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The Royals held a 27-15 lead with 8:16 remaining in the first half, but LC finished the half on a 23-11 run to pull within two at intermission. The game was tight the entire second half and the Hornets pulled ahead 65-64 on a jumper by Katie Crump (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) with five minutes remaining on the game clock. Lynchburg wouldn't score the next four minutes and EMU took advantage to open a seven-point lead with baskets from four different players. Crump scored back-to-back baskets to give LC a chance only down three with nine seconds remaining, but Lynchburg couldn't get an attempt off before the shot clock expired with 1.5 showing on the game clock.
Freshman guard Roslyn Alexander (pictured - Chesapeake, VA/Shenendenowa) scored a career-high 19 points on seven of 12 shooting, and added seven assists and four steals. Junior guard Annie Terry (Appomattox, VA/Appomattox) also netted a career-high in points, scoring 17 with four three pointers. Carly Greenlief (Centreville, VA/Westfield) added 15 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Crump finished with eight points, five boards and two blocked shots.
Danielle Rittenhouse scored a game-high 20 points for EMU (5-5/4-2 ODAC). Sara Lamneck tallied 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds while Bianca Ygarza posted 12 points and five rebounds.
The Hornets (0-9/0-4 ODAC) have lost four of their last five games by five points or less. Lynchburg looks for its first win Friday night against Randolph College at home at 7 p.m.
