Hornet Men Drop 64-62 ODAC Game at Bridgewater
BRIDGEWATER, VA - Three late attempts fell short Wednesday evening for Lynchburg College as the Bridgewater College men's basketball team hung on for a 64-62 victory over the Hornets Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
LC led 27-25 at the half in a contest that was tightly contested the entire 40 minutes. Bridgewater used a 6-0 surge to go ahead 56-49 with just over five minutes to play. LC fought back to go ahead 60-59 after a back-to-back layups from freshman Gary Boone (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) with 1:34 on the game clock. Kyle Hammond drilled a three-pointer for Bridgewater, but Tucker Lucas (Herndon, VA/Herndon) answered back 30 seconds later to knot the game at 62 all.
Rick Maloney scored in the paint to give the Eagles a two-point advantage with 16 seconds left, and Lynchburg missed the front end of a one-and-one, and missed two jumpers in attempts to force overtime in the closing seconds.
Junior Nate Campbell (Cary, NC/Cary) led Lynchburg with 15 points and five rebounds while Lucas had 12 points. Austin Chellemi (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) snared a team-high eight rebounds to go with six points and Michael Glover (Verona, VA/Spotswood) and Robby Kaiser (East Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) netted nine and eight points, respectively.
Hammond scored a game high 22 points, hitting six of his 10 three-point attempts, for Bridgewater (5-7/1-2 ODAC). Maloney contributed 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Lynchburg (5-8/1-4 ODAC) travels to Guilford College Saturday for another ODAC game at 3 p.m.
