LYNCHBURG, VA – Lynchburg College scored the last six points of the basketball game to put away Randolph College and score a key 90-84 overtime victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Wednesday night.

The visiting WildCats led 41-33 at the half behind 63 percent shooting from the floor and 54 percent from behind the three-point line. Randolph pulled ahead by 15 with 15:10 left after a 7-0 run and still held a double-digit lead with 10 minutes remaining (60-49) before Lynchburg fired back. A quick 7-0 Hornet spurt cut the advantage to four and the score was tight the rest of regulation.

A jumper from freshman Gary Boone (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) with 3:25 remaining gave LC its first lead since early in the first half and back-to-back jumpers from junior Nate Campbell (Cary, NC/Cary) gave the Hornets a 77-72 edge with two to play. Randolph cut the lead to just one but Boone answered with a 15-foot jumper with 24 seconds left to give Lynchburg an 80-77 lead. A Randolph miss forced the WildCats to foul with eight seconds left but LC didn't convert on either chance to clinch, missing two free throws. A three-pointer from Randolph's Caleb Pearson was true with 1.5 seconds left to tie the score and a desperation Hornet heave rattled off the rim to bring overtime.

Campbell fouled out down the stretch of regulation, but the Hornets controlled the five-minute extra session without him. The game was knotted at 84 but the LC defense didn't allow another point the final three minutes. A short jumper from Michael Glover (Verona, VA/Spotswood) and a lay-up from Austin Chillemi (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) put LC ahead 88-84 with two minutes to play and Glover sank two late free throws to help ice the game.

Campbell netted a game-high 24 points for LC, hitting 9-of-12 from the floor and all six free throws. Chillemi posted 14 points, a game-high nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals.  Tucker Lucas (Herndon, VA/Herndon) tallied 10 points, six assists and four boards and Glover finished with 10 points. Boone was large in clutch time, hitting 4-of-5 shots for eight points, and added seven rebounds and three assists. Brandan Connor (Chesterfield, VA/Benedictine) filled the stat line with eight assists, six points, five steals and four rebounds.

Pete Hamilton led five Randolph (15-7/8-5) double-digit scorers with 16 points before fouling out. Colton Hunt posted 15 points, Caleb Pearson tallied 13 points and five assists and Derrick Woods-Morrow and Mike Ehilegbu each had 10 points.

Randolph shot 48 percent from the floor for the game (28-59), cooling off after intermission. Lynchburg hit 51 percent of its shots (36-70), heating up as the game progressed.

The Hornets (11-12/6-8 ODAC) are off until next Wednesday, traveling to Virginia Wesleyan College for another conference clash at 7 p.m.
