LC Baseball Defeats Hampden-Sydney 4-3
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team scored an important victory over Hampden-Sydney, winning 4-3 on Wednesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
Hampden-Sydney took the lead first scoring a run in the second inning as well adding one in the fourth to make the score 2-0. The Hornet bats came alive in the fifth inning scoring three runs and added another run in the eighth putting the score at 4-2. The Tigers threatened in the ninth with a run, but LC was able to shut them down for a 4-3 final.
Dan Savage (Ashburn, VA/Paul VI) and Zach Fitzpatrick (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) both went 2-4 with one run and one RBI. Richard Palase (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) also went 2-4 and drove in one run. Jake Tanner (Big Island, VA/Liberty) went 1-4 with a double, one run, and one RBI.
Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford) pitched five solid innings for the Hornets allowing only two runs and seven hits with six strikeouts. Jared Millner (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) recorded the save for LC pitching the final inning and only allowing one hit.
The Hornets (19-12/11-3 ODAC) will host N.C. Wesleyan in a non-conference matchup on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
