Lynchburg Field Hockey Takes Advantage in Second 35 Minutes

YORK, PA – Neither team let up defensively in a scoreless first half, but the Lynchburg College field hockey team came on strong in the second 35 minutes, scoring three times in a 3-1 non-conference victory over York College on Saturday.

Junior Kelli Williams got on the board first with her second goal of the season. Sophomore Katie Kline took a penalty corner and after the ball bounced around the circle, junior Nicole Marburger was able to find Williams for the tally.

Marburger did it herself for the second goal. A foul by the Spartans set up a penalty stroke that Marburger capitalized on to make the score 2-0 with 28 minutes to play. The goal was the junior's third of the season.

Senior Colleen Dore added insurance for the Hornets with her fifth goal of the season. Sophomore Danielle Kreider found Dore inside the circle to give LC a two goal advantage again less than a minute after York scored.

The Spartans got on the board at 58:21 with a goal by Madi Wilt. Nancy Saylor collected a deflection off of Katie Petrillo's blocked shot to set up Wilt, making the score 2-1. Dore would score fifty seconds later.

Hannah Myers made two saves for the Hornets. Abby Baker made nine for the Spartans (6-5).

Lynchburg outshot York 19-11. The Spartans held an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Lynchburg (10-3) returns home to play Centre on Friday, October 12. Game time is at noon.
