No. 9 Lynchburg Topples No. 4 Stevenson 6-3

LYNCHBURG, VA – The ninth-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team controlled the second half of play Saturday night as the Hornets defeated #4 Stevenson University (MD) 6-3 in non-conference play. The LC defense held the visitors scoreless for the last 41:57 of the contest and forced 27 turnovers.

The Mustangs opened the scoring at the 10:42 mark as Andrew Bishop found the back of the net.  Junior attack Pat Ohrem evened the score just before the end of the quarter on an assist from senior attack Dylan Hoff. Junior midfielder Max Voumard gave the Hornets a 2-1 lead 30 seconds into the second period, but SU's Andrew Bishop answered to tie the score again. Nick Rossi put the Mustangs ahead 3-2 with 11:57 left, and neither team would score the remainder of the first half.

Senior midfielder Matt Manzo scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at three all at 10:18 of the third quarter, and the game remained knotted until late in the period. Hoff scored from senior attack Ben Sauer and Vin Curran followed with an unassisted tally, and LC took a 5-3 lead into the fourth. Senior midfielder Chase Loetz added an insurance goal one minute into the final frame on an extra-man opportunity. The LC defense kept Stevenson off the board for the remainder of the game, including fighting off a Mustang two-man advantage midway through the fourth.

Hoff was the only Hornet with multiple points, posting a goal and an assist. Bishop had two scores for Stevenson and Ian Bolland made 10 saves for SU (4-1). Senior keeper Franc Cook made seven stops for LC, including three in the final period. Senior midfielder Matt Jernack won nine of his 12 face-off attempts and junior defender Joe Lisicky caused four turnovers and scooped a team-high seven ground balls.

The Hornets (4-1) host McDaniel College Wednesday at 7 p.m.
