No.5 Lynchburg Men's Lacrosse Notches 16-7 Win Over Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Using a staunch defense and a potent offense, the fifth-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team stymied Hampden-Sydney College 16-7 on Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. It is the ninth-straight win for LC this season.   

Senior Dylan Hoff, senior Andrew Wilfong and junior Max Voumard each had three goals in the victory to lead the Hornets.

Hampden-Sydney registered the first goal of the game at 13:40, but Lynchburg scored five goals in the remainder of the period to lead 5-1 at the end of the first quarter. Hoff, Wilfong and Voumard all tallied goals in the quarter along with juniors Vin Curran and Pat Ohrem.

The Tigers scored the first goal of the second frame, but again was answered by five goals from the Hornets going into halftime. Voumard, senior Ben Sauer and sophomore David Alyanakian each found the back of the net as well as Wilfong who tallied two goals back-to-back to help LC lead 10-2 at the break.

With two goals to open up the second half, Hampden-Sydney made the score 10-4 until Hoff and sophomore Thomas Rodenhouse pushed the lead to 12-4. The Tigers' Micah Keller scored the fifth goal for Hampden-Sydney at 7:43 of the third, but LC closed out the period with goals from Hoff, Voumard and senior Matt Manzo.

Sauer converted a shot at 12:11 of the fourth quarter to make it a 16-5 lead for Lynchburg. Hampden-Sydney scored twice at the end of the period, but LC closed out the game with a 16-7 victory.

Senior Franc Cook made eight saves while only relinquishing five goals. Lynchburg scooped up 40 groundballs compared to HSC's 23 while winning 18 of 26 face-offs. The Hornets also caused 13 turnovers and were 15-18 in clear opportunities.

Senior Jeff Schwartz grabbed a team-high nine groundballs while junior Vin Curran nabbed five.

Keller led the Tigers with two goals. Cody Hornung made seven saves to lead Hampden-Sydney (4-5/1-2 ODAC).

Lynchburg (10-1/3-0 ODAC) heads to Randolph College next Wednesday night for another ODAC game at 7 p.m.
