LC Baseball Defeats Hampden-Sydney 11-10; Del Buono Triples in Winning Run in 10th

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Junior Michael Del Buono tripled to drive in the winning run in the 10th inning as the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Hampden-Sydney College 11-10 on Wednesday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. Lynchburg has now won 13-straight games this season.

LC led off the game with four runs in the first inning alone. Reigning ODAC Player of the Week Dan Savage had a fielder's choice RBI with the bases loaded. Freshman Dustin Arrowood, sophomore Zach Fitzpatrick and junior Ashton Paige each registered an RBI to make it 4-0.

Hampden-Sydney scratched out a run in the bottom of the frame before LC put up two in the top of the second. Del Buono tallied a run before Savage singled, bringing home junior Brock Shiflett for the 6-1 Hornet advantage.

The Tigers put up a run in the bottom of the inning and three in the bottom of the third to narrow the Hornets' lead to 6-5. Fitzpatrick singled in Savage, but the Tigers came back with three runs to take an 8-7 advantage heading into the fifth.

Junior Richard Palase launched a two-run homerun in the top of the fifth, putting LC up 9-8. Lynchburg extended the lead by two in the top of the sixth off a hit from Fitzpatrick.

H-SC tied the game at 10, forcing the game to the 10th inning. Shiflett doubled with two outs in the top of the frame, and after freshman Chris Cardella pinch ran, Del Buono tripled in the winning run.

Senior Jared Millner started the game on the hill before giving way to the bullpen. Freshman Brandon Miller continued his impressive freshman season, picking up his seventh win of the year. Miller pitched four innings, giving up three hits and one run while forcing six groundouts.

Hunter Lewis tallied three RBI to lead the Tigers (10-21/5-7 ODAC). Garrett Birnbaum took the loss for Hampden-Sydney.

Lynchburg (27-6/12-2 ODAC) heads to Emory & Henry College on Saturday for a conference  doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
