Miller Pitches Two-Hit Shutout, LC Defeats Emory & Henry 3-0 in ODAC Tournament

LYNCHBURG, VA – Freshman starting pitcher Brandon Miller turned in his finest performance of the season on Friday in helping the first-seeded Lynchburg College baseball team defeat Emory & Henry College 3-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. Lynchburg moves on to play Saturday at 11 a.m. while Emory & Henry is eliminated from the tournament.

For the second game in a row, Lynchburg College had its starter pitch a complete game in the ODAC Tournament after senior Robert Garrett shut down Hampden-Sydney College 8-1 on Thursday.

Miller pitched all nine innings, giving up only two hits and one walk in the game improving his record to 8-0. It was the second start and first complete game for the freshman out of Vesuvius, Virginia who got the win with just 95 pitches.

"You couldn't ask for a better outing from a freshman," said head coach Percy Abell. "To come in the conference tournment and throw a two-hitter against a great hitting team and do it on a day when their pitcher threw well was huge".

Junior Michael Del Buono clubbed a double in the bottom of the first to right center, scoring fellow junior Brock Shiflett for a 1-0 lead.

With the one run lead in the fifth, junior Michael Kenah doubled down the left field line after sophomore Zach Fitzpatrick and senior Richard Palase reached base, making it a 3-0 advantage for the Hornets. Miller was able to stifle the Wasps' offense, cruising to the victory.

Lynchburg kept Emory & Henry runners from advancing past second for the entire game.

Collin Metz and Josh McMillian had the lone hits for the Wasps (15-23), while Jessup Lambert went eight innings on the mound relinquishing three runs and five hits.

Lynchburg (32-8) will play in game seven on Saturday at 11 a.m. against the winner of game eight featuring Randolph-Macon College and Bridgewater College.
