Mansfield Pitches Seven Solid Innings, LC Baseball Beats Hampden-Sydney 3-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – Behind reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) pitcher of the week sophomore Michael Mansfield, the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Hampden-Sydney College 3-0 in conference play on Tuesday. Lynchburg has now won a season-high nine-straight games.

Mansfield went seven innings, giving up only six hits and no runs while striking out four. He is 3-1 on the season after earning the win against the Tigers.

Lynchburg scored one run in the bottom of the first after junior Michael Kenah reached first base off an error. Junior Michael Del Buono was hit by a pitch and then junior Dan Savage singled in Kenah, which was all LC needed for the win.

In the second inning, freshman Jay Kenyon doubled down the left field line scoring junior Ashton Paige. Senior Richard Palase hit a sacrifice fly a batter later, scoring Kenyon to make it 3-0.

Mansfield held the Tigers at bay for much of the game, leading to freshman Brandon Miller who closed out the last two innings for his second save of the season.

Luke Rabiej pitched five innings for Hampden-Sydney (9-17/4-5 ODAC), taking the loss.

Lynchburg (23-6/9-2 ODAC) hosts Methodist University on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. on Fox Field.
