Forbush Dominates as Lynchburg Wins Second-Straight, 83-65, over Meredith

RALEIGH, NC—Junior Shannon Allan scored the first five points of the game as the Lynchburg College women's basketball team jumped out to an early 15-6 lead against Meredith College, winning the non-conference matchup 83-65 on Saturday.

The 83-point total is the most put up by the Hornets this season.

It was all Lynchburg early as Allan spotted a 5-0 advantage to the Hornets on a 3-pointer and jumper three minutes into the contest. Following a basket by Meredith's Raven Gregory, Sammi Goldsmith knocked down another three for LC.

Caleigh Patterson scored two possessions later and Allan poured in another five points to put the Hornets out to the nine-point, 15-6, lead.

The Avenging Angels started to heat up, cutting the Hornet lead to two points, 16-14, but would get no closer in the game.

Lynchburg went on a 15-7 run to pull ahead by 10 with 7:59 remaining in the first as Charmaine Hairston connected on her second 3-pointer of the first half. Hairston continued to connect from range, knocking down another three to net the Hornets their largest lead of the half, 38-24, with 3:07 to play.

LC shot 43.5% from the field in the second half to extend the 40-33 halftime lead.

Chaney Forbush had one of the best games of her career as the Hornets pulled away late. The sophomore led Lynchburg with 19 points while hauling in a career-high 19 rebounds for her second double-double of the year.

Hairston finished with a career-high 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting in just 13 minutes of action. She also contributed three steals. Allan ended with 17 points after contributing 10 early on in the contest to go with three boards.

McKenzi Edwards had 17 points and five rebounds for Meredith (1-3) to go with 11 points from Jessi Hayes.

Lynchburg (2-2/1-0) continues its road trip Tuesday at Virginia Wesleyan College (2-1/0-0) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup set to tip at 6 p.m.
