Lynchburg Bats silenced in 8-1 Loss to Guilford

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's baseball team fell behind early against Guilford College Wednesday, dropping an 8-1 decision to the Quakers in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

Lynchburg starter, junior Trevor Johnston, kept the Hornets around for the first two innings, trailing Guilford 1-0, but two errors in the third inning plated three Quaker base runners.

Trailing 4-0, Lynchburg remained hitless until the fifth inning when sophomore Jay Kenyon singled to second base. Senior Ashton Paige singled an inning later, but the Quakers would strand both on the base paths.

Guilford added two more runs in the seventh inning for a 6-0 lead. The damage could have been worse, but Kenyon threw out two would-be base stealers in the game.

Lynchburg tried to rally in the ninth, but the damage was done. Sophomore Lincoln Evans continued his hot spell, singling to lead off the inning in front of senior Michael Kenah. The shortstop, Kenah, singled before senior Brock Shiflett walked to load the bases. Guilford went to the bullpen for the final three outs, allowing the Hornets to only plate Evans via a groundball double play.

The Hornets got a hit apiece from Paige, Evans, Kenah, Kenyon, and sophomore Joe Rogers. Sophomore Reid Goss and junior James Womack each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Guilford (9-8/2-3) was led on the mound by Drew Crawford's eight innings of one-run ball. Crawford allowed five hits and three walks while striking out four.

Lynchburg (9-8/2-3) returns home Saturday for a doubleheader against Virginia Wesleyan College (4-12/1-3). First pitch is scheduled for noon.
