Hornets Storm Out of Gate for Victory over WildCats
LYNCHBURG, VA – The #7 Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team scored eight goals in the first quarter, en route to a 17-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Randolph College on Wednesday night.
LC tallied its first goal of the game just two minutes in, as Todd Galvin finished off a pass from Derek Sweet. With a man-advantage, Max Voumard put a shot in the back of the net at 11:32 in the period, to give the Hornets a two-goal lead. Lynchburg would score the next six in the first, with Voumard netting three of them.
Galvin scored his second of the game to start off the next period, and Lynchburg added two more before the half to take an 11-0 at the intermission. In the third, the Hornets put four shots in the back of cage for a 15-0 advantage. Both teams scored two goals in the fourth for a final score of 17-2.
Voumard tallied four goals on just five shots in the game. Chris Cornelius and Galvin each had two, with Galvin assisting on another. Sweet, Austin Stewart, Campbell Armstrong, Pat Ohrem, Charlie Oldendorp, Jacob Fuller, Bobby Distler, Chance Smith, and Sean Ahearn all scored one as well, with Distler and Ahearn scoring their first career-goals. Sweet and Max Kelly assisted on two goals each, while Stewart, Ohrem, Vin Curran, Josh Davey, and Galvin all had one.
Colton Wood and Andrew Gleitz scored for Randolph (5-6 overall, 2-2 ODAC). Cam Davis made 20 saves on the night for the WildCats.
Lynchburg (9-2, 4-0) will return to action on Saturday with a key ODAC matchup. Conference rival Roanoke College comes to Shellenberger Field, with action beginning at 7 p.m.
