Dodge's Goal Not Enough as #13 Hornets fall to #11 DePauw

WITTENBERG, OH – The #13 Lynchburg College field hockey team stumbled in the season opener Friday night, dropping a 2-1 decision in overtime to 11th-ranked DePauw University.

The Hornets remained scoreless with DePauw the duration of the first half. The Tiger's Chelsea Cutler took a pass from Addie Ball and put one into the back of the cage for the early lead two minutes into the second half.

Lynchburg answered with a tally of its own six minutes later as Heather Dodge scored her second-career goal on an unassisted attempt. She netted her first in last year's match against DePauw.

The match remained deadlocked heading into overtime where Kate Jovanovic found Jamie Stoner for the game-winner.

The Lynchburg defense remained strong throughout the match, fending off 14 DePauw penalty corners. Jordan Seeley had nine saves for Lynchburg while Courtney Gillette added a defensive save of her own.

Maggie Steele had six saves for DePauw (1-0).

Lynchburg (0-1) plays Wittenberg University (0-1) Saturday at 2 p.m.
