Edgerton, Merritt Provides Senior Night Heroics in 1-0 Win

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team won their sixth game in a row tonight with a 1-0 victory over Shenandoah University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup on senior night at Shellenberger Field.

This game between the top two teams in the ODAC was close from start to finish. It remained scoreless throughout much of the game until the second half. 

Grace Ann Edgerton, a senior who has not been a normal goal-scorer throughout her career at LC, found the back of the net to make the most of her senior night. Her goal came off a cross from the right side from Lacey Elliott with about 25 minutes remaining.

Pressure was still on Lynchburg as they hoped to maintain their lead. In the remaining seconds of the game, senior defender Bianca Merritt cleared the ball from impending danger by the Shenandoah offense to preserve the win. Merritt and the rest of the LC defense played strong to earn the shutout, their fifth of the season. Beka Hess made six saves in goal.

Another senior, Danielle Kreider, along with junior Taylor Quillen each had five shots for Lynchburg.  LC led in shots overall 17-12. They also led in penalty corners 11-5.

Jenna Rampale had eight saves for Shenandoah (9-6, 4-2).

Lynchburg (10-6, 5-0) will be back in action again on Wednesday afternoon at Sweet Briar College for a 4:45 p.m. start.
