Hornet Field Hockey Captures Eighth-Straight, 4-1 at Virginia Wesleyan
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team won its eighth-straight game Saturday afternoon 4-1 at Virginia Wesleyan College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up. The victory assured the Hornets the #1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, a first-round bye, and home-field advantage throughout the six-team bracket.
Senior attack
Kelsey Link put LC ahead early, knocking in a rebound just 6:28 into play. She followed with another unassisted goal just over three minutes later to give LC a 2-0 edge.
Catherine Rogerson took a feed from
Taylor Quillen and found the back of the cage at the 12:39 mark, but the Marlins answered back midway through the half with a goal from Tanya Puccio.
Lynchburg extended its lead to 4-1 on a penalty stroke from Courtney Gillette at 46:08 of the second half.
Beka Hess made five saves in the cage for the Hornets, while Lindsay Baker stopped 11 shots for VWC (3-13/1-6 ODAC).
Lynchburg out-shot its hosts 21-8 and held a 16-4 edge in penalty corners. It was Link's third two-goal game of the season, all coming in October.
The Hornets (12-6/7-0) host Roanoke College Wednesday night in the last regular-season game for LC.
