Lynchburg Finishes Undefeated in ODAC Play, Defeats Roanoke 3-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team scored early and late to down Roanoke College 3-0 Wednesday night in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) finale for both teams.

Lynchburg jumped out to a quick start as Taylor Quillen corralled the ball inside the circle and took a shot that was saved by Candice Fisher. The stop ricocheted off Fisher's right pad back out towards Danielle Kreider who was able to take advantage for the score just 59 seconds into play.

Neither team scored the rest of the first half despite several good opportunities. Fisher was forced to turn away eight Lynchburg shots as the Hornets put a high percentage of attempts on goal.

Beka Hess made a save in the first half for the Hornets as the defensive line turned away several other scoring chances before they could develop for Roanoke.

The Hornets added an insurance tally less than three minutes into the second half as Kelsey Link crossed the ball in front of Fisher where Quillen could finish into the bottom left corner of the cage.

Lynchburg finished the scoring at 62:03 when Kreider found Meredith Bradsher for the Hornets' third score.

Lynchburg maintained a 10-7 lead in penalty corners while also outshooting the Maroons (8-11/2-6) 17-8. Fisher finished with 12 saves while Hess added five for her third shutout of the season.

Roanoke was eliminated from ODAC tournament consideration with the loss while Lynchburg formally locks up the top seed in the upcoming tournament.

Quarterfinal games are set to start this Saturday. Lynchburg (13-6/8-0) will receive a bye and host the winner of #4 Randolph-Macon College and #5 Washington and Lee University in the semifinals next week.
