Hornets Down W&J in Four Minute Burst by Link

WINCHESTER, VA-The Lynchburg College field hockey team capped off its best week of the season with a 2-1 win over Washington & Jefferson College on Sunday in non-conference action.

The win finishes a 3-0 week for the Hornets and pushes them over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

The Hornets took advantage of a four minute spurt in the second half to collect their seventh win of the 2014 campaign. Taylor Quillen found Lynchburg's leading scorer Kelsey Link 55 minutes into the match for the opening score of the game.

Link scored on an unassisted try less than four minutes later when her eighth goal of the season hit the back of the cage at 58:54.

It was the first multi-goal game for Link on the season and fifth of her career. Three of her eight goals have been game winners for Lynchburg.

Caroline Kallos helped get the Presidents on the board when her assist led to a Amanda Steffey score at 67:46.

Morgan Brozena made three saves for Washington & Jefferson (7-4) while Beka Hess made a pair of stops for Lynchburg.

The Hornets outshot Washington & Jefferson 21-7 and held a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners despite trailing 4-3 in the category at halftime.

Lynchburg (7-6) hosts Ferrum College (1-9) on Thursday at 6 p.m. in more non-conference action.
