Link, Kreider Lead Hornets to Fourth-Straight Win

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team played their final non-conference game of the 2014 season on Thursday night with an 8-0 win over Ferrum College.

Lynchburg got things started early with a goal by Danielle Kreider off a penalty corner from Kelsey Link six minutes into the game. The two seniors, Link and Kreider, connected on one more corner a few minutes later for another score to post a 2-0 lead going into the half.

The Hornets' hot shooting continued strong into the second half as they scored six additional goals to take firm control of the game. Four minutes in, Lacey Elliott found Elaine Ritschard for a goal. Catherine Rogerson tipped in a ball from MacKenzie Price for a goal at the 45:22 mark. This was followed by a pair of goals coming from Link, one of them being assisted by Megan Tillou. Elliott got her second assist of the game with a pass across the middle to find the stick of Grace Ann Edgerton. Courtney Gillette finished things off for LC with a penalty stroke with only two minutes remaining.

Beka Hess and Sarah Suter teamed up to post a shutout in goal for Lynchburg.

The Panthers (1-10) had 18 saves on 40 shots from the Hornets' offense, 17 of those saves coming from freshman Courtney Gosslin.

Lynchburg (8-6) rounded out its non-conference schedule Thursday night and continues their four-game win streak heading into Old Dominion Athletic Conference play for the remainder of the season. The Hornets will travel to Randolph-Macon College to face the Jackets in Ashland, VA at 1 p.m. in a rematch of last year's ODAC championship game.
